FURIN BELLS

THREE MATERIALS, ONE AND THE SAME CHARM

Fūrin were inspired by cast-iron bells that used to be hung in temples and pagodas. In more recent times, other materials with excellent acoustic properties have been incorporated. On our website you’ll find the following collections.

  • CERAMIC

These are the traditional chimes. Their metallic sound sustains the vibration for a long time.

WHY ADD A TINKLE TO YOUR LIFE

FENG SHUI, SOUND, COOLNESS

It was a Chinese tradition to hang bells on the corners of temples and pagodas. Believing their sound drove away evil spirits, people began to hang small bells for divination or protection. In feng shui, their sound activates qi and disperses negative energies, harmonizing spaces. These customs reached Japan, where they were called futaku (fortune bell), though today they are known as fūrin (wind bell).

The Japanese are a highly synesthetic people: when they want to appreciate incense, they “listen” to it. In kabuki theatre, the dull sound of a drum is falling snow. A shrill voice is “yellow.” And in summer, when they hear the tinkling of a fūrin, they “feel coolness.”
Whether to protect yourself from negative energies, improve feng shui, or cool down, you can invite a fūrin into your home. And you can also—why not—use its sound as an anchor to return to the present
