WHY JAPANESE INCENSE?

A SENSORY AND SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE

The use of incense can be traced back over 5,000 years ago in ancient Egypt and Nubia. It crossed ages and cultures and was introduced in Japan in the 6th century with Buddhism. It first filled the temples with fragrance, before enchanting the imperial court and the refined circles of society to become a true art form: Kōdō, the “Way of Incense”, one of Japan's greatest traditions. Today incense is used all around the world as part of a universal aromatic culture of harmony and well-being.

  • Japanese incense does not contain an inner bamboo stick: it is entirely made up of fragrant substances.

  • Its refined aroma is for those who enjoy subtle and elegant fragrances.

  • It produces less smoke than other incenses, and some emit almost no smoke at all.

  • Its base is tabu bark blended with other finely ground substances or essential oils.

  • Perfect for meditation, reading, or simply a moment of stillness and connection.

THE MAGIC OF INCENSE

TO MOVE, TO CALM, TO COMFORT

Incense has the power to move the human spirit, to empathize and to make us live in the present. Calming spirits. Reviving memories. Transcending time and space. Transforming environments. Expressing identity. Conveying emotions. They promote inner peace, free the spirit, relax us, keep us company and comfort the heart. Lighting
a stick of incense is a source of inspiration.

Depending on the fragrance you choose, its aroma will help you relax or concentrate; it will create a warm and welcoming atmosphere to share with friends and family, or a serene atmosphere for moments of introspection. Some fragrances you will enjoy in the morning, others in the evening. Today, incense is used all over the world as part of a universal culture of harmony and well-being.

Proud of its artistry, aesthetics and sensitivity, perfected over 450 years, Nippon Kodo creates incense made from carefully selected raw materials that no one else in the world can offer.
