The furin is a traditional Japanese wind chime symbolizing summertime. During hot and humid days, its refreshing sound brings relief. This blown glass furin is handmade and hand-painted in Japan. It is designed so that the glass is thicker at the mouth, which improves its timbre.
The decorative motifs on these furin often depict seasonal elements or refreshing images such as this little bell decorated with red lilies, a symbol of purity and passion.
Tradition has it that a poem or wish is written on the cardboard weather vane (tansatsu) to be carried away by the wind. When it is damaged by the weather, you can make another one.
Since glass furin are fragile to impacts, we recommend using them in places sheltered from strong draughts. Their size and colour may vary as they are completely handmade.
