The Japanese word ichimatsu means checkerboard pattern and simply means alternating squares of different colours. Although it is an ancient design, it owes its name to the kabuki theatre actor Sanogawa Ichimatsu, who liked to wear costumes with this pattern (18th century).
This beautiful incense holder is specifically designed for burning Japanese incense sticks. Its traditional motif will add a zen touch to your home decor.
