Koh, in Japanese means incense. It also means perfume, just as it does for us: from the Latin per fumum (through smoke).
The same kanji is pronounced kaori in more cultured and literary language and means aroma, like Kaoru, the naturally perfumed prince in the last chapters of the 10th century novel The Tale of Genji.
In Chinese this kanji also means "incense".
