Chime of Bali

This windchime is tuned to the Saih Gender Wayang traditional scale used in the Balinese puppet theatre and other Indonesian religious rituals. In 2003, the most famous shadow puppet theatre in Indonesia called Wayang Kulit was declared by the UNESCO a masterpiece of oral and intangible heritage of humanity.

This thousand-year art was first mentioned in 930. Related to the rich Balinese storytelling tradition, it was adjusted over the centuries depending on the new religions that were introduced on the islands, Hinduism first and later Islam. Wayang is not a proper show as we know it in Western cultures, it’s rather a ritual that may last all night long.
